Is it necessary to replace the stock chain with a different size chain when changing sprockets bought from this site?

Chinese chains stretch a lot and wear quickly typically, Its not necessary to change chains but it would be best in the long run maintenance wise. If you go with a smaller sprocket you may need to remove links from your existing chain meaning that you will need to put on the new sprocket and then adjust the wheel to about half way down the sliders. Then take the slack out of the chain and place it on the sprocket then count how many links you will need to take out so that the chain can make a full proper loop.

At this point remove the master link and then use a chain breaker tool, grinder, dremel, or other similar metal cutting tool and grind/extract the rivet from the end of the link that is staying. This will separate the chain and then install your master link and connect the chain and you will be ready to ride.

I don't think I worded my previous question the way that I wanted it to be interpreted…I understand that it is highly recommended to change the chain and sprockets at the same time, but I meant is it necessary to change the chain size (520, 525, etc) if buying a sprocket from the china-moto store or can I use my stock chain? I guess the question I'm also asking is what pitch is the stock chain/sprockets vs. the sprockets in the china-moto store?

Chad-

Yes.

Although a 520 and 530 chain have the same pitch, 5/8", the roller widths are different, 1/4" and 3/8" respectively. Therefore, the wear or noise will be significantly greater and if reversed where the sprockets are wider than the chain rollers, the chain will not completely encase the sprocket and could jump off, lock the tire when you least need it or worse. Get all components in the same designations depending on your requirement, less weight, more strength etc.

Cool
